This work forms part of an ongoing investigation into the text or performance score. Specifically I am interested in their empowering potential to destabilise authorship, temporality and originality from a feminist perspective.

Negotiating with the Dead: A self-help programme for composers is an original instruction score inspired by the Margaret Atwood text of the same name. Written in the summer of 2014, it was published in Issue 12 of the independent magazine Structo. The absurdity and impossibility of the performance instructions were first 'realised' live in Autumn 2014 with props including a mic and amp, a ten pound note, a pen, a battery powered record player and selection of 7” records, and a bag of marshmallows. Later it was realised as a 15 minute sound work broadcast on Glasgow CCA project Radiophrenia in April 2015, and later at 'If we're going to use this wretched term,
then let's be clear who was innovating in it' for Electra as Wysing Arts, July 2015. This recorded version attempted to make audible the instructions and situations the score raises, not as a literal ‘sounding’ but rather an abstract haunted collage.
