ore is dedicated to Stuart Estell, who asked me to create a piano piece that would be suitable for an upright piano and for a piano that does not have a third pedal. The resultant piece focuses closely on just a few harmonies and sonorities. The music employs space-time notation and, although performances may last 3-4 minutes, long and extremely sparse performances of the same notation might also be imagined. The title implies something rare and precious that one might go to great lengths to extract, but also references a drone metal doom tuba project of the same name that Stuart started with Sam Underwood.
