Project
Creators: Perchard, Tom
Abstract or Description:

This project will produce the first book-length study of popular music in the British home between 1945-1990. Those years saw a transformation in homes, social roles and audio technologies alike. Popular music laid increasing claim to domestic space, and to the emotional and imaginative lives of those dwelling therein. Yet there is still no comprehensive scholarly history of popular music in Britain across these decades. This study’s innovative domestic setting provides a new understanding of the ways that both daily life and a central cultural form were experienced before the digital age.
