Abstract or Description

This article is intended to provide evidence to suggest that information for teachers regarding transgender children does not represent an adequate picture of
transgendered children in schools and that primary schools need to be made more aware of how to deal with transgender children, even if these children do not make themselves known to staff. It will argue that this is probably a contributing factor in transgender children’s underachievement in school. The implications of this research will also suggest that findings of some psychiatric and psychology professionals are open to reinterpretation. I will additionally suggest that the inclusion of transgender issues when dealing with homophobic bullying and work on gender stereotyping is
likely to make combating homophobic bullying and gender discrimination more effective.
