Abstract or Description

This is an 18-page introduction to the complete recording of the secular music of Guillaume Dufay (c. 1400-1474) by the Medieval Ensemble of London, issued by Decca/L'oiseau-lyre [L'oiseau-lyre 452 567-2] in 1997. It analyses the song forms, identifies some of the patrons and recipients, and places them in the context of song composition in the early fifteenth century.
