Abstract or Description

This talk will explore how field recording and soundscape composition can play a meaningful role in the world of noise abatement. We will look at a pioneering historic project from London in 1928. London Street Noises, which pre-dates acoustic metrics such as the decibel, and relate that to more recent practice such as Drever’s campaign against high-speed hand dryers, recording migratory birds in Hong Kong and the sonic experience during the global pandemic. We will also explore the new concept of aural diversity that grew out of this work.
