Abstract or Description

‘OK class, SLANT:’ is a dramatic monologue written from the perspective of a secondary school English teacher. It is a playful and somewhat humorous poem, originally written for performance. The poem explores the tensions that exist between creativity, performativity and pedagogy within the English classroom. It is written in a light-hearted, rhythmic style, whilst simultaneously posing critical questions regarding the narrowing of the English curriculum and the stifling of self-expression in schools.
